Migration Policy and Research
Drawing on its technical and operational experience in the area of migration governance, IOM provides in-depth analyses and expert advice on migration policy to governments and relevant institutions. IOM’s work is designed to guide and inform migration policy and practice by contributing to a broader and enhanced understanding of migration patterns and trends. Through its research and analytical works, IOM promotes strategic dialogue on migration-related issues and assists government counterparts in developing well-informed and evidence-based migration strategies and policies.
In the North Pacific region, IOM has been involved in various research initiatives that are aimed at better understanding migration profiles and related challenges in the region. In Palau, an assessment on the human trafficking and protection situation has been conducted to gauge vulnerabilities faced by at-risk populations in Palau. Recently, a legislative review which identifies gaps in the country’s counter-trafficking frameworks is being conducted to provide recommendations in lieu with international best practices.
