IOM in Palau

As the leading organization in the field of migration, IOM supports governments in strengthening migration governance capacities and frameworks. Drawing upon its extensive expertise in migration and operational experience in more than 100 countries, IOM works in the four broad areas of migration management: migration and development, facilitating migration, regulating migration, and addressing forced migration.

Established in 2012, IOM Palau Office contributes to the government’s efforts in addressing various mobility-related challenges, ranging from human trafficking to environmentally induced displacement, and promotes the overall well-being of migrants and local communities. IOM Palau operates projects in various thematic areas, including disaster risk reduction and resilience, climate change adaptation, counter-trafficking, and education.

Since the Republic of Palau officially became a member state of IOM in 2018, IOM has further expanded its presence within the country, seeking to strengthen its partnership with relevant government and civil society partners. IOM has worked abreast with local, national, and international stakeholders, including government ministries and agencies, Pacific Education Resources and Learning (PREL), Environmental Quality Protection Board (EQPB), Red Cross (PRC), and the Civic Action Teams (CAT).
